Roll The Stone Away

On the day that Mary went with others to anoint Jesus’s body with oil, they saw that the stone had been rolled away and that Jesus was not in the tomb.  As we have learned, an angel descended from heaven to roll the stone away and that Jesus had risen from the tomb thereby washing all of our sins clean.  I am not a pastor, and this is a much-abbreviated version of events, but you have likely heard it many times and can fill in the gaps of my narrative.  If you would like to visit this account in greater detail, you can do so in Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24 and John 20.

I bring this up not just because it is Easter Sunday, but also because of the powerful connection made on the subject today at church.  I spent Easter weekend in North Carolina visiting family.  While here, I attended a “Sonrise” Service where the pastor shared (much more eloquently and elaborately than me, I might add) the details surrounding the resurrection of Christ and the rolling away of the stone.  This was no small feat for man as the stone was large and heavy yet the angel, sent by God, did it with ease.  Why is that?  Because all things are possible through God.  Even the impossible becomes possible through God.  Here is where the pastor took things to a more personal level. He said that each one of us has our own “stones” that need to be rolled away.  Your stone could be a financial, relational, medical or other burden that you are facing in life.  Moving your stones might seem a daunting, insurmountable task.  You are right; it might be too hard to overcome alone.  But here's the good news: you are not alone!

God is there with you, waiting for you to reach out.  This is not to say that all of our prayers will be answered just as we’d like (sometimes the answer is “no”) or that the stones will instantly be turned to dust and the way opened.  All prayers are answered and heard by a good and faithful God.  He will put things in place and work with you to move your stones, big and small, and make a clear path.  You do not need to try to move any of your stones alone because you are never truly alone.  God is with you.  God is for you.

Don’t give up.  Don’t quit.  And don’t burn yourself out trying to roll your stones away alone.  Call on God, day or night.  And remember, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.

Have a blessed and joyous Easter Sunday.  Thank you for joining me on this journey.  -Wanda
